"Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood"

So many people love us. Our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends, lovers, all love us. Despite our crankiness on nights where we only get 3 hours of sleep, or when we're just in a bad mood because we had a bad day at work, we still feel love from these people. How many people, though, understand us?

Orwell included this quote in his book 1984. 1984 is one of my favorite books, although discovered as a required reading in school, I found that it has a lot more meaning than I could ever imagine. This quote really makes me wonder. Who does understand us? Sure, some people understand certain layers of us. Maybe your mother understands when your friends are being mean, and your friends understand when you just need a night away from your family. But what about deeper than that? Who understands why we need to do things a certain way and why we are the way we are? 

The answer to this question may be no one and quite frankly, that's okay. Perhaps one day we'll find someone we can understand on another level that we've never felt before. And perhaps, that's more important than finding someone who loves your body and your appearance.
